So i have this nice processor, a T7200, in my laptop.
Compal (like most stupid OEM's) thought it was a good idea to disable Intel VT-x technology in the BIOS for god knows why.

Why should I have an intentionally crippled laptop? :/

After a bit of searching I found other people didn't like this either and reversed there BIOS to find the NVRAM token that controlled VT-x.

I did the same for my BIOS.
Took me a while to find what i wanted to know.
Intel has lots of documentation on its processors. :/
But it was very nicely documented once I found what I wanted. :)

(Result of disassembling behind this cut) )

I then used a tool called SYMCMOS.EXE to make an export of my NVRAM to a text file.
Added "(02FD) [0001]" to it and changed "(0300) [0000]" to "(0300) [0001]"
Then imported it and rebooted.

And it worked! I can now have 64bit guests in VirtualBox or have a KVM setup if i wanted.

*proud* :D

Git
Tried to set up an Version Control System for fun. I picked git since it seems to be the hype to use git.

"Git is an open source version control system designed to handle very large projects with speed and efficiency, but just as well suited for small personal repositories; it is especially popular in the open source community, serving as a development platform for projects like the Linux Kernel, Ruby on Rails, WINE or X.org."

However "Git has been criticized for its usability, documentation, and design."

So it took me an evening of reading before i figured out its basic functions. :/
After messing around with it till i got it i went to bed. ;)

The next day i had to think about my setup, i could run a daemon on a port to handle git stuff.
This would mean i had another process running on my server all the time and opening a port in my router.
So i didn't really like that. Git also allowed doing it over ssh, but i don't want to hand out ssh accounts if someone would like to check my code out. Luckily git also allowed pulling over http.

I ended up having a setup like this

a web interface so people can see what changed with diff's and at what time etc: http://24.132.114.237/git/web/?p=hello.git

so people can clone my project with git instead of having to download a tarball from the webinterface: http://24.132.114.237/git/rep/hello.git/

When i want to push changes onto the server i use: git push ssh://user@24.132.114.237:443/home/user/git/hello.git master

This way i know only I can change my project and i know i can always push securely even when the connection I'm using cant be trusted. And ofcourse, people can view my projects and get the code. :)

Getting gitweb running was a task on its own. All examples for it used either vhosts, some other messy setup or apache. I dont want any of those since i only have one ip, want a clean setup and use lighttpd. :p

After reading up on lighttpd.conf syntax and mod_cgi i came up with this:
$ ls -l /var/www/git/web/
total 16
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  164 2008-04-08 19:01 git-favicon.png
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root  208 2008-04-08 19:01 git-logo.png
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root   27 2008-10-22 23:14 gitweb.cgi -> /usr/lib/cgi-bin/gitweb.cgi
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 7112 2008-04-08 19:01 gitweb.css
$ tail /etc/lighttpd/lighttpd.conf
$HTTP["url"] =~ "^/git/web" {
  index-file.names = ( "gitweb.cgi" )
  cgi.assign = ( "gitweb.cgi" => "" )
}

I notice that if i want to post to my journal its not possible for me to type long things, so ill just summarize from now on. :)

I had Leoparda and his mate over this weekend.

Wii games played:
- Wii sports (tennis, bowling, they didnt want to play boxing *pout*)
- Smarty pants
- Mario party 8 (I won, go me!)

Lots of cuddles and a bit of playing.
(note to self: dont play with snowleopards again, they bite.)

Things watched:
- Random anime
- Family guy on BBC3
- Bit of animal planet and a bit of House
- The House on Terror Tract

There airpump was empty/broke, i couldnt find one that would fit.
So they didnt have an airmatress to sleep on.
So ofcourse i left them there to sleep on the floor. j/k.
I went on a pillow hunt, managed to capture two. (yay im a good hunter)
They slept in my parents bed.

And in the end Leo didnt wanna leave. ;)

Slept terribly for the last few days, did nothing today.
I think its the fault of my new plush/pillow thing.

Will try to sleep without it tonight to see if i can get a decent night rest.

Busy
I'm busy, but thats not a good reason to neglect my journal IMO.

Some things that hapend since the last update:

On Friday the 8st i heard that Tristan was gonna come over to Naros, so i called Naros to ask if i could come too. After a vague talk it was ok for me to come over. So i went straight from school over to Naros his place. Tristan was suppose to be there at 16.xx, he was stuck in traffic and came an hour later. After he arrived we played with Tristan's wii. Later, after some pets and the like, i got to play with one of Tristan's balls. ;)

I left there around 22.xx iirc, since i needed to visit Laha too before he left.
It was really annoying to divide time between nice people.

There where a lot of people (imo) to say goodbye to laha.
Mostly we just talked, played some games.
I also gave Laha chocolate to prevent him from beating me up.
Left there at like 04.00

Next day i had to attend a birthday of my aunt, it didn't go as planned and ended up in me slamming the door behind me and walking back home, leaving laptop, dog and parents there. I returned later in the evening and pretty much ignored the person who caused it and he did the same fortunately.

There was one cool thing though, and kinda sad. There was a emergency helicopter that landed two streets away. It was really awsome to see that they can actually land it right there on the road. When they took off again, after the girl that caused it left by ambulance, they asked everyone to go back like 20 meters. I cannot believe the wind that thing caused when it lifted off, it almost blew me over, even at that distance.

Picture )

Sunday i ate pancakes as a celebration for my parents there anniversary.

Monday i was back at school to hear that a friend (the project team leader) quited his education to do 'HAVO' as he failed the year for sure. So now our team is without a leader :/
The whole project was doomed before it started anyways since the persons we had to rely on where unreliable.
I don't know what will happen, its now Thursday and the project is nowhere near where it needs to be. Tomorrow is officially the last day we can work on it :/

Still have no final place for an internship, called several companies, they all want HBO students.
I also called brightside.nl and they told me drop them an email, so i did. Today i got a call and they wanted to have a talk with me on Wednesday 20 June. So wish me luck ;)

Thats about it i guess.

Alright, as mentioned in my last entry i went to see pirates 3.

Public transport went fine, not as bad as i would have thought. I found my way to the movie teather pretty fast. When i got there i met Naros and it turned out we where in the same train. Remco and Kenai had already been there to pick up the tickets. After a while Cranphin came. Charlesbc and Nido had less luck and got lost.
They still managed to get there in time.

The movie was nice, lots of nice fighting scenes but too little jokes :p
The fact that the movie was 168 minutes and there where no breaks was a bit annoying but still worth it. :)

Then there was this talk who/how/where everyone was gonna stay. In the end Cranphin drove Naros and me to Naros's place and we spended the night there, thanks again Naros. Charlesbc and Nido went over to Remco's and Kenai's place i think.

Cranphin and i played a bit with Naros his wee ... wii* ... the next day. We had lots of trouble with the wii-motes (dead batteries/wrong remote number) but after that was all worked out it was lots of fun. Cranphin then drove Naros and me over to over to HyperX and Burmese. Due to the circumstances i didn't buy a present, ill make sure he gets one later. :(

There where a lot of people there, i think it was:

HyperX & Burmese (of course)
Remco & Kenai
Charlesbc
Nido
Neko
David
Nico
Jonesy
Cranphin
Naros
Emax
Kimba & Laha
Kensaro
Helios
Dutchwolf
JohnnyK

We talked lots and the food was really yummie, too bad there where not more burgers and/or soucages, they where really tasty. Its probably for the best else i might have ate myself sick. :)

Anyways my dad picked me up at ~24.00 and now im home typing this entry. Goodnight.
